Hi All,

I have a 2009 Freelander 2 S TD4e. I have a couple of questions.

1. Do I need to take the car to a main dealer to have the cruise control activated? I have bought some steering wheel controls and am about to fit them but was wondering if they needed to be activated by a main dealer? I am in Northampton so if there is anyone with the software nearby that can help, please let me know.

2. Same question regarding the key? I only have one key. Are there any services near Northampton who can supply and code a new one?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if the dealer can activate non factory fitted options, as normally software is VIN locked to the vehicle.

The most likely device to do this modification is the Gap Diagnostics IID tool, which will program non standard upgrades, allow modifications to the configuration files and so on.

Thanks Nodge,

I have read on this and other forums of Ebay bought Cruise Control and stereo buttons being added and being activated, so I just assumed it would work. I have fitted cruise control buttons to a couple of Alfa Romeos in the past and they worked fine, even though I had been told it needed to be activated??

As for the key, am I correct in assuming that as long as the new fob is clean, i.e. never been programmed, it can be programmed to the car as long as there is one working key available?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

CC will definitely need activating on the I pack and BCU CCFs.

The radio buttons should work, as those are a simple resistive ladder which the stereo system knows what to do with.

The believe the IID can program any key to the BCU, new or old.
