hiya, after nearly 5 years we've replaced the missus freelander with a freelander 2
Couple of small issues but main one is the key fob, it works the ignition ok but won't lock the doors, the only things it will do is unlock the drivers door and unwind all the windows,
Took fob to Halfords to get a new battery but told they are rechargable and soldered in place.

First off , do I need a new fob, secondly anyone bought one from other than LR that worked, also how much am I looking at from LR,
Only just got car tonight so haven't rung them,
Thanks in advance for any advice

If it's unlocking one door and doing the windows. There's nothing wrong with the battery in the key. Sounds like it could be the lock micro switch.

Have you tried pressing the unlock button twice to open the rest of the doors. Have you tried the other key? Does it do the same?

Thanks for your reply,
We only got one key with it, to unlock the drivers door you have to press quite hard and doesn't work every time

What age is the FL2 I have read that the batteries should last 10yrs then they need replacing, in your case though it would be best to try and get a spare key fob, it would have to be coded to your car, which would most likely be a LR dealer cost would be about £200 + maybe not sure, I have just been having the same trouble with one of fob keys, if you have two always best to alternate them as driving the car charges the battery, maybe your is just a bit flat due to not being used? did you purchase from car dealership if so may not have been driven for a while, therefore not being charged as it should.

I have been looking at a method to put the spare fob on charge while not being used but that is still a project.

link to how to change battery below.

tried that myself replacing the battery , but bought another remote in the end

didn't realise at first they were conductive charging when put into the ign switch, agree totally as i alternate between the keys to charge them up

The best thing to do is get a new replacement key for it. If your only key fails completely. You'll be up **** creek without a paddle.

I personally walk away from vehicle that doesn't come with both keys.

theres a guy on the bay does the full refurb new case new batteris and new buttons for £30 posted.I have had 2 done and they are superb
Good price, but sending a duff key away for repairs isn't much use if the OP only has one key. ;)

I'd be cautious of sending the key away anyway. Who knows who might clone it for later use to remove the car completely.

Cheers, just ordered one, now just need to find someone to program it

hi

the cutting of the blank cost me a tenner , know not all shops can cut the blank , maybe someone on here may have a machine that can program it for u or know of a local specialist , only takes around 10 x mins to program

many of us buy our own diagnostic readers as it saves u a lot of money in the long run, seeing landy rover want £120 everytime to plug a machine in

has the advantage having ur own to not just read and clear faults but turn items on and off, program keys etc

this is the one i personally got ,
