Freelander 2 gear shift problems

Hi All
Im pretty new to this but love my Landy,,,!!!
not sure im posting in the right section but here goes

the problem I'm having with my freelander 2 is
after a friend serviced this car, ( I know ) ,,,,
I can't seem to engage 6th gear.
I have looked at the reverse solenoid and reset this, to no avail.
you can find 6th gear whilst stationary however this seem to disappear once moving.
the end of the gear linkage cable seems very wobbly,, lots of play - the end attached to the selector in the engine bay :
is this the problem and can I buy the plastic bushing on the end of the cable or do I have to buy the whole cable..?....

I don’t know Ian - the gears worked fine before this service now no 6th gear : the plastic bushing at the end of the gear selector cable is very wobbly lots of play in it . It’s possible that he’s caught the selector and damaged the end of the cable as the bushing is wobbly... I will try to post an image of the cable bushing
