My 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 smells when under power (reversing up my driveway) in reverse.

Is this the clutch (70 000kms)? or some other problem.

Still under guarantee, but I would like to know if this is a common problem.

Hi I dont know about the flr 2 but i know my flr 1 does not like reversing with the caravan on the back i think they are quite high geared in reverse and so a bit more clutch slip is evident

Sorry i could not be of more help

there has been a problem on fl2 s of your age but most complain of clutch slip in 3rd between 2-3000 revs, check out clutch slip threads on freel2 .com

The clutch is the Achilles Heel on all manual Freelanders. Do you slip the clutch while backing in with your foot on the gas?
Have you tried letting the clutch up gently but fully without touching the accelerator and letting the anti-stall do it's work?
