First of all i would like to say hi all.

Bit bout myself and landys.Had a frlander1 for around 3-4 years (td4) and loved it,it did all i asked of it so as a hole very hapy with it.Only last week i chopped it in for a 2008 fl2 2.2 auto GS,must say i love the the thing, great drive with a lot more power if needed.
The problem i have is mpg (shhhhhite) to say the least and not happy,I always knew it wouldnt be as good as the fl1 bout thrt if i nursed it along with a very light right foot it shouldnt be all that bad but after running it for only a week its given me 24-25 to the gallon,
I would say that was 50/50 motoway and town driving(cc set at 60 on motor way just to see what i can get from it) as said not happy!
checked all tyre presures and there all fine
The car has done 50k full fsh no roof bars i never had it in sports mode,i would more say grandad mode if anything
Ive checked the mpg by working it out in the way you should but must say it worked out the meter on the dash tells me the same thing aswell.

Could any1 advise me on this.does it sound right or does it sound as tho theres a problem,if so what?

Been looking at the synigey 2 how ever you spell it lol,has any one tryed 1 on the fl2,if so how did you find it?

Many thanks for any advice given

Karl

Just had a look on LR's second hand, shorry nearly new vehicle list for a 2008 gs auto and it ses:

urban 25.7mpg
eggstra urban 41.5mpg
conbined 33.2mpg

cheers hippo

If im honest i was exspecting 30/32 from it and would be happy at that,I just need to find a way to get that from it.persenaly i dont think it should be a big ask in grandad mode lol

I should get 22mpg from my FL1 v6 but normally it does 18mpg.

The best mpg on an auto FL2 comes from the 2011 onwards SD4 I think. Even if you feather it you won't increase the mpg by much.

Do you think the synergy 2 thing would help it at all,There seems to be a lot of good reports on the unit but i cant find any1 that has one on the FL2 to get the feedback

only a week its given me 24-25 to the gallon,
I have an 08 GSauto and it returns 34ish overall. On a steady motorway run it can return 42 if I cruise at mph, but soon as i touch 70+ it drops like a stone.
Is the auto box working correctly and actually pulling away in 1st gear ! Mine was puling away in 2nd gear for 18 months and only used to return 23-26 best mpg.
I had an electrical problem causing it not to select 1st pulling away which dealers failed to find . I didnt know it was pulling away in 2nd until the problem was fixed then it went like a rocket and MPG was brill.

Hi and thanks for the replys.
Very intresting and in one sence pleased to hear i have a problems of some sort rather than 24/25 been the norm.
Oldgezza.
How did you manage to work out it wasnt pulling away in 1st as it should, must say it seems to pull away fine but as you said you couldnt tell untill it was fixed, bit of a worry when the dealers couldnt find the problem as i was goin to book its in to get plugged in to the pc to try find out whats goin on.
Ps,As i say ive been in grandad mode to see what i can get out of it,ive been sat at 55/60 while on a roads and no more.
Love the car but so peed of with it at the mo,went out in it this am but town work and it was telling me 20.9 on the read out of which i have found not tb far out on the last fuel check

Thanks again karl

We have been getting 34 all round mpg. Stratstones told me that it will pull away in 2nd gear unless under load. We pull a challenger 230 caravan no problem,We love it.

i had a fl2 s model and that regularly averaged 29-31 mpg, when my wife took it she averaged 35, my sd4 average 34-36mpg, my wife doesn't get the keys!!!!!!!!! both are auto's

Hi

"Stratstones told me that it will pull away in 2nd gear unless under load"

THEY DONT ! My Dealer didn't even know what gear they were supposed to pull away in !

I assumed they pulled away in 2nd as My E250 merc and a BMW I had always did but the FR2 doesn't unless its switched to sport mode.

Long story but to cut it short I had fitted an extra earth cable from the battery to the engine to overcome loads of electrical and starting issues. The moment i pulled away I heard a faint whine until it changed gear, and then realised that the faint whine was 1st gear in the auto box. It also then went like a rocket and pulled away extremely promptly whereas before it was always dangerous at roundabouts as it was very sluggish pulling away, obviously hence the poor MPG. It had been in so many times for a hesitation which after 9 months dealer decided it needed a turbo ! and in desperation and despair I found the hesitation by accident trying to rectify another issue ! When mine was pulling away in 2nd with the caravan on the back it really struggled to get moving and MPG was about 19 whereas now towing it will do 22-26mpg.

To get it to pull away in 1st you could put it in drive, then change to the manual mode and select for 1st gear – been a while so I can’t remember how I did it in a FL2. Then drove off and see if it feels different as you count/change up the gears.

Weren’t there problem with FL2 auto's pulling away in second which caused 2nd's clutch to burn out or something like that?

is the mpg any better if you drive manually in steptonic, grey cells tell me this is the most economic with sport mode a close second and bog standard auto giving the worst figures,
