Not a great believer in service history. My 2001 Freelander has had very little routine stuff apart from oil changes. It's low mileage (35000) but it's also 9 years old. It's about to go in for a timing belt (I think I might be on borrowed time) and a look at the head gasket (unlocated coolant leak, getting worse), but what else ought it to have? Seems to me that while it's in pieces, there might be other major risks I should think about. The only things that come up at MOT are 'underneath' - brake pipes etc. It runs well, but it seems a bit noisier than usual. Any advice please? Am I worrying about nothing?

My v6 is the same age and on 23650 miles. I did the belts last year.

Check the water pump, plastic thermostat housing and front idler pulley on timing belt. Replace if needed. Some choose to replace the water pump anyway, but I didn't as mine was on a low mileage and ok. Thermostat housing can leak as its plastic and splits.
