Hi all
i am not sure if this has been covered before, if it has could you please direct me to it. i have freelander 03 2.0td4 and the clutch hit the floor and found that the slave is gone, so i am going to get the clutch and change the dual mass flywheel to a solid flywheel. i am not sure if this is a good idea and will it cause any damage to the engine or gearbox? and was hoping that there are other people out there that have gone for the change and it was for the better.
cheers kevin

Hi there
thanks for the reply, the flywheel conversion was £505 frpm veloe which came with a clutch that has heavier spring to take some of the strain, but what damage to gearbox will be done and will it happen quickly
cheers kevin

you dont get springs in clutch plate with dual mass as it is the springs ,heavier spring wont help ,modern engines are high torque throughout rev range unlike petrols thats why they fit dual mass it takes shock from the gearbox ,how long ,depends on your box ,weeks, years

Hi all
Not sure now if you go a head with the conversion and changing the flywheel, maybe a dual mass flywheel would be better to fit so damage to gearbox doesnt happend
Cheers kevin

Hi all
Just to let you know that i have got the flywheel changed to a solid flywheel and the car is running perfect with no extra noise or vibration and would reconmend it
Cheers kevin

hi im in the process of doing this with my 53 td4 and was wondering if you still have the car and if so what are your thoughts on the solid mass flywheel now :tea:

Ahoj. Také v Czech Republic řeším jestli dát obyčejný setrovačník. Ale odrazují mne od toho z důvodu poruchy převodovky. Zatím to u nás nikdo nevyzkoušel, jsme malá země....

Changed to solid mass about 6 months ago bought a LUK clutch and flywheel kit £385 complete. smoother take up than dual mass but then old flywheel was f---ed
