Thought this might help someone.
I had problems with my Freelander starting and giving off lots of white smoke in the morning. I tried a new glow plug relay and new plugs. This didnt solve the problem.
We discovered that there was only 2.5 volts present at the relay which obviously suggested a wiring fault. Instead of tracing the wires what we did was find the positive terminal on the relay and wire directly from the battery with some very heavy duty (70amps I think) cable and connectors.
Now it starts quicker than you can turn the key! a cheap fix and really quick to do.
Hope this helps.
