Freelander 1 Freelander 1 tyres

Hi All

Looking for a decent tyre for a FL1 2006 TD4 that will give good mileage, road use only.

Not after budget tyres and pref something that will 30k miles or there abouts.

I have A/T's fitted to my FL1 now but in the past I have found that Avon ZX7's or Hankook Ventus Prime or RA28's work well. If good mileage is your only important criteria then there are others that will give better mileage and last longer, but I found the Avon and Hankook tyres to give a good balance between grip, economy, ride quality and lifespan.

Michelin tyres last well, but are expensive.

I use Cooper myself, as a good compromise between life and cost.

Cooper Weather Master WSC, just under £400 for a set of four - very good tyres in the dry and wet; that said I'd also go for Michelin, but with my 18" Sport alloys it would have over £600!

I've got these on my Sport rims.
They were about £75 each fitted, last well, grip well and are quiet on the road, and ok on grass, snow and light mud. Oh and they corrected the slightly optimistic speedo too.

Went for Cooper Discoverer all season in the end 225x55x17 £98 a corner fitted.

Why didn't you go for larger 60% or 65% tyres? The 55% profile looks silly small imho, and makes the speedo over read by about 10% too.

Just went with what it rolled out the factory with. As for the 10%, no wonder I've not been done for speeding...

I never understood why LR chose that size, as they're much too small, and look silly.

You won't. If the speedometer is reading 70, then you're actually doing about 62Mph, IIRC.

Even with 235/55/18 tyres fitted, the road speed is still under the displayed 70Mph, although only by 1Mph.

Can a Freelander get up to those terrifying speeds...

Defender coefficient of Drag - 0.68
Freelander coefficent of Drag - 0.39

The RR dude must have some cash, cos I checked the '10 PARA' plate to see what type of RR it was, but the plate is/was registered to a Bentley Arnage.

Mine is noisy at high speed, but not at all terrifying. In fact it feels stable and smooth. Ok it's not as refined as out Mazda CX5, but the FL1 is quite happy, regardless of how fast it's going. It feels better on 18" wheels, over the 17" wheels it had before.
