Hello everyone, just purchased a 2003 freelander TD4 and was wondering if anyone could help with a couple of faults I have found since getting it back.
1. when using the alarm fob to lock and unlock the car it only locks it, it wont unlock the front doors - does unlock the boot door, and you can hear it try to unlock the doors but the pin doesn't pop up...i was thinking solenoid but it seems to work one way - - any ideas
2. the guy i got it off fitted a new fuel pump but now the fuel guage reads backwards - I was thinking he may have plugged the plug the wrong way around but after speaking to him he said it wasnt possible as the plug only fitted one way - is this correct or can i just locate it and swap the wired round
3, now the slightly worring bit - when reving up and changing from 2nd to 3rd there seems to be a clonk every so often from the front feels like its near the pedals, I know the diff mounts can go on these as it has been used to tow (hopeing were not looking at the gearbox) it doesnt seem to do it all the time or when changing between any other gear

finnaly anyone have any advice on things to check / change and upgrade to ensure this lives a long a fun life..

im pretty handy with a spanner and happy to get my hands dirty so anything would be good, already looking into a facelift conversion

im missing my Rangie already - maybe i should have stuck with that

a site search should reveal snippets of info on that ..
over time .. corrosion of indoor wiring is somewhat of a general problem ..
i.e. speaker wiring .. window cables .. and no doubt the locking system ..
( not had the problem myself .. 'xcept for a corroded speaker connection )

2. the guy i got it off fitted a new fuel pump but now the fuel guage reads backwards - I was thinking he may have plugged the plug the wrong way around but after speaking to him he said it wasnt possible as the plug only fitted one way - is this correct or can i just locate it and swap the wired round

if the fuel gauge sender unit was disconnected .. it could have been re-connected backwards .. am fairly sure someone else here had the same problem ..
( site search again :)

rekon i'd be looking at engine / gearbox mounts .. to start with ..
( do a site search for "clonk" or similar ..
( as like same from rear end .. diff mounts and rear subframe bolts ..
( the subject of front end clonks / knocking noises come up now and again

Hi

The door lock issue is the central locking mechanism....... just changed my drivers side one. Sounds like you need two :(

You can get them, used, from fleabay....... I wouldn't recommend it though because you don't know what you're getting. I would buy new. They are about 70 - 90 squid each, not cheap. And having small hands will be a definite plus when fitting them........... something I don't have!!

Good luck with your FL, I love mine, despite it's flaws.

anyone know where i can get the Rave CD for the freelander, preferably for free

land rover service factory manual RAVE download land rover resource, service manual, workshop factory manual, download, rave, vehicles including discovery, series, defender, range rover, freelander, LR3, Handbooks, Catalog, Catalogue, Land Rover Inte

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
can't say 'owt about it .. as my comp. won't co-operate with the files ..
besides it don't cover my year vehicle
~~~~~~~~

there's this site as well .. you need to register to get beyond the 'owners manual' ..

has anyone downloaded from the first RAVE link as my virus software goes crazy when i try...not sure if i should proceed and just risk it....

have you tried new batteries in the fob, sounds weird that it will lock but not unlock, you say you don't see the button pop up, neither do I, but the door unlocks ok

tried new batteries, no help unfortunatly....

it wont start now so bigger fish to fry.....starting to regret getting a freelander

my experiance with the freelander isnt great so far....never had any of these issues with my Range Rover, 3 years pretty much problem free....haven't even managed a week with this and its died....

I did enjoy the 4 days it actually worked...

Regarding your fuel gauge reading backwards he's probably changed the fuel sender unit fitted in the tank you've 2 different versions one has to connection prongs and the other has 4 , I've got the same problem and I now 100% it's the wrong sender unit you can tell by just unplugging it if you've 2 wires on the plug then there should be 2 on the sender
