Can you get a 2008 frelander 2 with the older style front end ??
What do you mean?
The front of a Freelander 1 on a Freelander 2?
If so then no. The 2 vehicles have only 1 item in common, which is the bag hooks in the boot.
Nothing else is the same, not even the vehicle dimensions, the FL 2 being 3 inches wider and 12 inches longer than then FL1.

Do yourself a favor and get a sensible landrover.

My partner got recovered last week by the rac in our fl2... Clutch slave cylinder. Subframe out. Gearbox out. Significant bill as I don't have a lift so will be paying someone else...

Defender also broke the week before. Transfer box stuffed. I happened to have one left over from a scrap disco, but I did spend £3 on a new input seal.

A Freelander is a sensible Land Rover. Few peeps want to drive a biscuit tin on wheels. Peeps want comfort and a heater that works.

Just me panicking, I've just bought a 2008 freelander 2 but now I know it's a pre- face-lift model.

Yes, a 2008 is a pre-face lift, but depending on what model year it is, depends on what sort of Haldex it has, and what software the vehicle is running.
The Freelander 2 underwent many minor changes throughout its life, as well as 1 minor facelift and a major update too.
All information is needed when asking questions specific for it. ;)

How do I tell, its freelander 2 se

So what Haldex & what software will it be running
It's a 2008 MY vehicle, so will have a Gen3 Haldex and be running earlier software. When ordering fluid and filters for the Haldex, you'll need to get the stuff for the Gen3 Haldex, not Gen4.
The dash LCD will have slightly different wording on starting and when faults flash up than a 2009MY vehicle, which is pretty much the only visible difference in the software, although in the background there are lots of tiny differences, all pretty irrelevant to the average driver however.

Had a Fl 2, 2009 model, GS, got it with 90,000 on and run 18 months till 148,000 miles, was a nice thing to drive and reasonably economical too, took it all over and used for work, costs were servicing (parts as I do my own) one wheel bearing that me, and two mechanics thought was rear diff and was only when we used chassis ears we traced the noise to bearing, (rear nearside), splines went in gearbox so it became two wheel drive only, does it no harm but expensive job to fix then flywheel started to rattle also expensive so off loaded it, shortley after the reg disappeared from the MOT government site so either fixed an private plate on it or scrapped.
Went onto disco 2 then, slower and more agricultural but felt more “Landy” much simpler to put right also because engine and box are correct way round not rammed in tight engine bay.

if buying one try and get it in the air spin a front wheel and a rear one should also spin, if not walk away- Splines gone in gearbox so front drive only, effects manual and autos. Any seller may say “it’s the haldex not locked up” the haldex does alter the pressure and how much is rear driven but even when not doing anything it’s still permanently 4x4.
