Freelander 1 auto gear lever gaiter renew.

Hard to find info on how to get lever off

here’s how pull up sharply on knob and it’s released from the lever tube ,
I released the bottom ring trim first, unplugging the HDC & gear indicator first .
You can then remove lever , gaiter + trim in one !
Th top of the gaiter is fixed to the ring trim via a thick o ring easily removed.

the bottom however is bonded ( some I gather are screwed ) and I had to drill the plastic river type fixing
In reverse I glued it all back left it overnight slip the lever back in the tube smart tap on the knob plug in the HDC switch & gear indicator plugs And all done .
there is no real info I could find on you tube mostly fl2 hi how is completely different

Did mine recently. Didn't find it too difficult, but as you say, to get your knob off takes a good pulling.

I used superglue to stick the new gaiter back to the plastick frame. It was back together all secure within 15 mins and has made a huge difference to the interior as mine looked like this...
