Freelander 1.8 Petrol Blowy Noise from Engine

Hi everyone,
My 2003 Freelander's engine sounds absolutely terrible as of yesterday, like a tractor. Check engine light has just come on. It sounds like a blowy exhaust, but from the engine. It's running a little rich on idle too.
I drove through water recently (about to top of wheel), but drove 100 miles afterwards without any problems
, not sure if that is related. Checked air filter, all dry. Also had fuel pump replaced a week ago - could it be something to do with that.

I suspect the deep water (too deep for a standard Freelander BTW) has cracked the exhaust manifold by the pre-cat. It's quite a common place for the exhaust to fail.
