I recently bought Freelander 1 2001 and it has 60k miles on it. It was having gasket failure. I inserted MLS gasket and now engine is ok. But when my car is on idle, the rmp jumpsup to 1000 and drops down to 800, I tried to loose and tight up but it's not helping, I cleaned throttle body, and checked two sensor on manifold. It's seems ok .
I don't know what to do now

Try spraying carb cleaner or WD40 or such into the Idle control valve as they can become sticky. It's been a while since I did it but I think you need to pull off the hose that comes from the throttle body. When I last did it I had the engine running.

Many thanks for your reply, I did that, still facing same problem .

It might need a new idle control valve but are all the plugs and leads good?
Also when you fitted the timing belt are you 100% certain the timing marks are lining up perfectly? It is common to end up one tooth out.

Yes you are right , I got and ex UK idle control valve at 50usd and also adjusted timing belt now the car feels smooth , more powerful and better fuel economy .
Thanks alot
