Hiya
Just replaced the heater matrix because it sprung a leak. and now the heater doesn’t work,I’m presuming an air lock but don’t know the correct procedure on this model to clear it. And no I didn’t fill the matrix before fitting it ☹️
The water pump went so I replaced that too.now I’m well tired and there were a few choice words. I changed the thermostat a month ago.
It still seems to be loosing water but slowly. , no sludge in the oil. There is pressure and it goes to temp without overheating. where would I look next.?before I get the big hammer out. .

Have you bled the heater from the bleed screw on the top heater hose? Also the main coolant rail could need bleeding too.

Hiya
Thanks.
Poured the coolant in with the bleed screw out engine not running. until gravity did it’s thing. I thought this would do it. But!!!!
I’ll check the rail tomorrow.
I guess it just going round the pipes.
Thanks for replying
Cheers.

Hiya
It’s is. At the top.
I’m thinking. Would taking both off and gently hosing through the matrix to flush the air out do it. Bit rough doing this I know but trying almost anything at the moment.
Thanks.

Good.

It might work, if you fill it from the bottom. You could try keeping the hose water in it with a finger blocking the heater stub, until you fit the pipe quickly. ;)
I’ll try that tomorrow. See if I can get it to work.
Thanks for suggesting it.

Hiya
Remember me . Ive tried to ignore the fact that the heater isnt working, ive fixed the water leak so thats good, now then ive come to the conclusion that at my age i really do nead heat. The situation at the moment if anyone can help is......to recap
.filled header tank with bleed screw open till fluid comes through bleed hole.
Water pump, thermostat, heater matrix all new and matrix flushed to clear air,
The two pipes that come from the matrix....bottom one hot, top one stone cold, the bleed screw.....i can take the bleed screw out and with the engine running nothing comes out of the hole.at tempreture and left running the fan will kick in.
I dont understand why the lower pipe from the matrix is cold, the only thing i can think of is the thermastat is stuck shut but its a new one. Any tboughts.????
Oh znd if you read this far, thanks

If you put a garden hose to one heater stub, does the water flow out the other? The symptoms you're having is like the heater matrix is blocked.

It won't be the thermostat, as the heater bypasses that.

Thank you.
The reason I was thinking thermostat is because the fan will start at some point and I’ve still got a cold pipe, with nothing running through it. my thinking was no circulation. I Sure your right. Just me thinking out loud.
the matrix is new a flows through when on a hose pipe.
I won’t let it beet me, it’s probably staring me in the face but I’m not 100% familiar enough with it yet. I’ve worked on all the cars I’ve had, must be loosing my touch.
If.... sorry WHEN I find out I’ll put it on here. May help someone one day.
Thanks again.

Don't give up,
I did find this https://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/freelander-a/cooling_system_k_series_kv6/cooling_system_component_layout_sheet_1_of_2/
may give you an idea of the way it flows, or doesn't in your case
Recheck what you've done, is the water pump connected the right way?
On the rover forums theres mention of one way valves that disintegrate, don't know if ours has them.
If you take the pipe off the matrix out does any water spew out? Similarly can you confirm it reaches the matrix in?
I've often squeezed the rad top and bottom hose to help push the water round and hopefully force air to the expansion tank (cap off)

Thank you for your time and for that info. Much appreciated.
I’ll be looking some more. The bottom hose to the matrix gets warm. But not flowing through. What you just said makes a little more sense.there has to be something stopping it well before it gets to the matrix and restricting flow. And really. Thanks again.
