Hi all- wonder if anyone has come across the issue i'm finding with my 06 freelander 1 auto ( Jatco box ) TD4.
It only tends to do it once warmed up- but then when the box changes from 4th to 5th it often changes straight back to 4th, then back to 5th and stops there- all ok from there on. Its as though its kicking itself back down a gear ( too easily ). If I only apply very light throttle it doesnt do it, similarly if I give it full/lots of throttle it doesnt do it- just when 'normal' driving. I have a synergy box on and experimented different settings but it doesnt make much difference to this issue. Its had an oil change with LR fluid.
Does this sound normal for these boxes?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated- ta all! :)

Powers pretty good and smooth to be honest- especially with the synergy on. Just like you say epicuser its when 'normally' accelerating, except mines between 4th/5th? If you switch to manual no probs at all- only in auto.

I notice it when gently accelerating and it goes 1-2-3-4-3-4.

Often wondered why. does it with or without the Ronbox on.

Software glitch maybe? My auto changes up and down depending on the road conditions. I find if i'v been climbing a long hill it holds a lower gear, but it often continues to hold the lower gear once the road flattens out. I suspect it's been programmed to do that!!

Thanks Nodge- yeah mine does similar tricks too. All pretty ok in reality but just curious about this strange thing that it does?....great otherwise tho! :)

the gear box is designed to hold onto a lower gear when going up hill

I went up a rather steep hill with the Ronbox on 7 and dash switch on power. It held 4th all the way up which it hadn't done before when the switch is on eco2. I didn't think it would make it, but it did.

The changing up and down only happens when accelerating normally at say 30-35mph. Not noticed it yet with switch on its power setting, but it did do it lots when it was on 10 and switch on eco2.

disconnect car battery for hour this may reset and clear problems

my freelander jatco box gear change is ok .
. only problem when cold don't change up very good so I use sports mode for first few minutes
but I must say the mrs auto Daewoo Lacetti is far better gear change

That has been done very recently.

Sounds like you also suffer from the sluggish when cold issue as well !!!!

Thanks guys- i'll drop the battery off an hour and try that. Yes, mines jerky when cold but soon warms and goes pretty smooth. My pre fuel burner doesnt work but not too bothered cos it looks a nightmare to fix and car warms up pretty quick anyway. Ta all :)
