(www.rswsolutions.com) do free software for the EAS. Looking at other threads you will see that you will have to lash out on a device from Black Box to do anything else:(

Thanks for the replies. That's a pain,i knew about the EAS devices but thought there might be some for the rest of the car.The rovacom stuff seems expensive to only be used occasionally though.

Does anyone know a reputable person in S.E London/North Kent who can read & reset as my p38 showed up a Gearbox Fault/Traction Failure although i did read on this site that it could be down to a low battery although i keep it on permanent charge as it doesnt last more than a week & the battery is only 18 months old:(

Thanks for that v8kenny.Where abouts on the car is it fitted, apparantly no part no's on them though.Mine was built june 2000 & registered october 2000 on an 'x' plate, many thanks

Just found it i think,on rh side next to blue amr module but can't see any markings on it that relate to landrover. Will they know if i quote chassis no to them??

You can use standard ODB11 software which can be downloaded free. You will need an ODB11 cable which you can either make or buy from most places. Ebay sell them for about £15. With the standard ODB11 interface you can read standard fault codes / sensors etc but the specific Landrover ones are displayed but it will not give anything other than a code (I have used the net to look up the codes for these).

Also the rovercom one allows you to set car specific things outside of the standard ODB11.

Hope it helps.

Thats interesting, have you actually tried to read the codes using free software? I made up a cable for the RSW EAS software, but it did not appear to conform to the OBD11 standard in terms of the data in/out pins. I have not looked at this in any detail, maybe the standard data pins are used for non EAS things?

Hi, I have used both scantool (do a search on the net, its a free download) and digimoto (you have to buy digimoto) and both work with no problems on the P38 (mines a 2001 car). I made my own ODB11 cable but unless your good with electronics its a dam sight easier to buy one from ebay as its not just wires, you need to have the odb11 convertor such as an elm chip.

The EAS uses a different data line for its comms so it will not conform to the ODB standard.

I confirmed with my local dealer yesterday that i should have the 3rd generation rf receiver unit fitted according to my chassis no.I have noticed though that i have a noise coming from the drivers seat fuse box,i have removed each fuse 1 after the other but the noise is still there.I think this may be causing the drain on the battery, any ideas??

hi i am new here got problems with getting rid of faults cannot download software anywhere and when i do it wont run got cable . can anyone help???????

The P38 diagnostics is not readable by anything other than Test Book, Black Box, or Autologic plus the dedicated EAS only software. When diagnostics are used, the facility is needed to read AND clear faults. Hand held scanners are a waste of time and money on a P38. There is no way of doing it on the cheap unfortunately, other than the EAS software.
No doubt someone will come along and say that they have bought an OBDII scanner that does everything for £50 and the ££££'s sign will tempt people to part with their money. If such kit was available, do you think I would have spent £2 grand on the kit I have???? I am sure that other members on here with Rovacom etc. will confirm what I have said.

must agree with irishrover. i also have purchased a s/h mk2 rovacom, and now realise how much they can do.
