Free lander 1.8 petrol speedo in op?

Can any one help my R reg 1.8 petrol freelander speedo has all of a sudden stopped working. I noticed a rumbleing noise coming from the engine bay 1 night, then in the morning the speedo wasnt working. Things i have tried,
1, Bought a second hand dial cluster still no join but the abs light is on
2, replaced the white (has a cog on the bottom) unit on the gear box
and i still have no speedo, every thing else works fine. Does the freelander have a fuse for the speedo as i dont have the hand book to check?
Any help would be great or its into the garage at £30 per hour.

Yes replaced that item and replaced the dial cluster as well to no avail.

Check your fuse has not blown, stupid I know, I left hand break on pulled away and fuse blew. Not noticing till 10 minutes later..

+1 from memory when i remove first time the fuse from ABS speedo not working

Yup I popped four fuses each time speedo failed.
