Has anyone ever built a frame for a swb S3 for carrying boats or windsurfers? I'd really appreciate any info anyone is prepared to share on this.

I have two 16' kayaks that i want to carry and am busy drawing up plans on the back of fag packets and beer mats with a mate. have come up wih some weird and wonderful ideas, but most are probably impractical.

I have access to varying thicknesses of pipe and a welder (mates a plumber) and was thinking that maybe we could rustle up something along the lines of the standard hoop set for the tilt, only stronger and maybe extending over the truck cab a bit.

Any ideas?

its pretty high to load kayaks in top of - but yu could make a U frame to mount on the rear of the vehicle to stand slightly proud of the tilt, and over the cab fit a gutter mounted roof rack ( or one section of).

You could make something along the lines of an external roll cage using the mounting holes for the grab handles on the rear X-member and at the front, attaching to the windscreen frame mounting brackets on the bulkhead. You could even extend it right over the bonnet with with long verticals coming off the ends of the bumper. I've seen a Land-Rover with a roof rack which extend right over the bonnet like this - Looked pretty good to me.

Swapping to a hard top would be less hastle and they don't cost much - some people even give them away!
