Ok right, what I will do now (because I cant do anything else at this time) Ill go to Maplin and see if they have a more expensive USB to serial that will work on windows 8 if they have and I still get no joy then I will get you to make me a lead to go with it... and then if that does not work I know I have a poor connection some where, would I be right in saying that? and since I have checked all the connectors, could that mean it's either a break in a wire or the brain has been fried?

Never heard of an EAS ECU failure, the only reliable bit on the P38:rolleyes:
The critical thing is the get an adaptor that is Win8 64 bit compatable and read and follow the instructions for installing the driver before plugging the adaptor in. I don't know for sure that these adaptor even work on Win8, never tried it, but I would hope they do. The alternative is a Card Bus RS232 adaptor.

I'm starting to wonder if your going to hear of your first?

So an update, I went to Maplin bought myself a USB Serial Converter which supports windows 8 at a cost of £20 and this time I installed the driver first lol but still I got -NO-IDLE-:frusty:

Next step, as you may of worked out, I checked the continuity from the OBD to the EAS ECU plug and got continuity for both the pink and white cable and the white and light green one and I did triple check that, I even checked it from both sides at the connector blocks so 100% it has continuity. I then went back over it and checked it didn't have an earth fault just incase it was giving me a false reading, but that was fine :)

So... I now have the right adaptor and driver for my computer, I now know I have continuity, I know the data link fuse is ok. the only thing I don't know is, a) if the ECU has given up on me OR the ODB to serial cable works..... That said it looks of good quality and he has sold 225 of them and not one bad feedback, so I'm guessing that SHOULD be ok (touch wood) I might try and find way to check that...

So does anyone have any other thoughts of what (if anything), I should check before buying a new ECU?

FL is front left height sensor signal incorrect. Try the old ECU again, it may just have been a corroded connector. Otherwise, as you say, you are very unlucky.
