Today after inspecting my coolant pipes, after a slight loss of coolant over time, i found about a 1/4" break in either the in/out pipe for the heater unit (the one at the top of the engine bay on the passanger side. The damaged pipe was the one nearest to the bulk head.) It was damaged where the soft pipe goes over the heater connector pipe. It looks like it has rubbed over time, and eventually worn through.

Anyway i didnt have many tools so i had to do a horrid bodge. To clamp the pipe to stop lots of coolant being lost, i used some moul grips and clamped the handle closed with a jubilee clip. I then cut the pipe back to where its in better condition and reconnected it, about 1.5" had to be cut away.

After being reconnected, i just clipped it back up tight.

My question is as i disconnected the pipe, and im guessing there will be some air in pipe, do i need to do anything special. I went for a little drive to the shops with the heaters blowing constantly etc. The air was coming through warm, but the engine never got upto full temp (as expected)

I commute 40 miles each way to work, so need to make sure its ready to go for tomorrow. Should it just be ok, or is there something else i need to do?

Cheers

ahhh iv had this prob on mine the pipe rubs on the heater box.
If you want take the 2 rubber pipes off then just connect them together so you make a loop instead of going through your heater n it be ok...
When you come to change the heater rad dont take it all out.
Just slaken the 2 top bolts then with a smallish flat screwdriver n hammer take the tops off the rivets along the top of the box then fold the metal up out o the way,
slide the heatwer rad out its a little bit fiddly but it will work.
B4 you put new rad in put some draught exluder around the edges of rad to stop it vibrating again...

no i think you miss understood, its just the soft pipe which connects the the outer heater box at the very top.

I was just wandering if i need to do anything special to get rid of air locks etc after i have disconnected the pipe.
