I have found a 200 TDi that is very solid, I've checked everything I have been advised to on here and everything seems solid with very little rust. (Tiny rust spots here and there)
The only fault I can find is the indicators start flashing for seemingly no apparent reason occasionally, when the cover around the steering wheel is moved slightly they start flashing. Is this something to be concerned about or would it be something relatively simple to fix. I have no problem stripping the electrics down to sort the problem out if it is going to be as simple as changing the indicator switch or looking for a short in the wiring but maybe you guys have some other ideas what it could be before I commit to buying this disco.

Any ideas?

Stuart

is it both indicators (i.e together like hazards) or just one side at a time? i woudn't think it would be too much, if this is the only thing wrong with it and its at the right money go for it**

** disclamer, G-Man accepts no liability for you buying a ****ter any complaints should be written on a piece of toilet paper (in poo) and sent to:

I think it must be something to do with the indicator switch itself because when it starts flashing and you hear the relay ticking, when you move the indicator lever it stops. I would imagine this would be a fairly easy fix though.
Typical, I've probably covered about 3-400 miles looking for the right disco and this one is about 2 miles from me!!!

If that's the only fault you can find on the vehicle I would advise you snap it up straight away - assuming it's cheap enough.

The indicators thing could be one of a number of things such as a faulty switch, but honestly it'll be a nothing thing - go for it.:D :D

Good luck

Well its 950 for an 'L' plate, maybe a little OTT for the year but I don't think I'll find a more solid body for the amount I'm planning to spend. I've checked the inner wings and there isn't a spot of rust, the rear arches have a couple of tiny spots which if treated I don't think will be any problem and the boot floor is very clean. There is a round plate attatched to the boot floor with bolts and some minor flakey rust is appearing around the bolts but I can sort that out I believe without any problems.
It has been treated on the inner wings and the boot floor but will probably need a new coat of sealant as the guy told me it has been a while. I don't mind getting my hands dirty though if its easy enough.

Go for it mate, try and knock 'em down a hundred or so but if it's as solid as you say bite there arm off. I bought my 'M' plate 6 months back for £800 and have loved every minute of it........the missus loves it too:D which means i can spend some pennies on it when i fancy:p

If you do get it, give it a bloody good service asap including cam belt if it's not been done recently, not too expensive and could save you lots of pennies in the long run.

and don't forget to grease the props. ( i forgot and had to put a new one on last week:( .

Sounds like the hazard switch. I have a replacemt switch cluster that I bought and then discovered that wasn't the problem so it's now surplus to requirements.

I bought the disco today and dicovered that it is the hazard switch causing the problem but only when the hazard lights are on. Dozy git who sold it had left them on but because they only worked occasionally he thought it was some other fault. It doesn't happen at all when they are switched off.
I will need to get a new switch though.

He assured me that the cambelt had been changed but can't offer any paperwork to prove it. How big a job is this?

Stuart

P.S. Loving driving my new disco, I'm hooked already!!!!
