Alright everyone?

Does anyone know the status of the Fosse Way in Glocs? Does it close in the winter?

Thanks in Advance for any info!

P.S. Checking status before i drive down it.... As you so kindly advised I should do Grippa! :)

its fine. pick it up near castle combe. just north of the M4 and follow it right up to kemble. you can divert off left toward luckington etc. back around sherston to hook up on the fosse again. last night the ford at overton? or luckington? was 4ft high. there are also 2 river crossings on the fosse. both of these are fairly tame. the second (heading north) can get upto 3ft. but is generally ok.

where you wind down a slope toward the river, use the bridge. DO NOT be tempted to cross the river. its not part of the byway and the farmers will be watching, their just waiting to close it down. the zuk and enduro *unts have torn the place to **** in the last 12months, creating tracks either side of the river for 100m and up banks close by. ramblers/farmers are getting well ****ed. stick to the path and use the bridge.

any more on the fosse, jut let me know.

it was a legal ford! arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Nice one Griff!

Thats more info than i expected and very welcome! Now I am set to do some Legal lanning. But if i do run into some of those angry Ramblers, I shall still be overly polite

On another note. I am going over to the Isle of Man pretty soon. Thinking of taking the Landy. Does anyone have a MM/OS map for the Isle?

im pretty sure i will have the MM for the isle. do you want my MM route for the fosse? it takes in all the lanes and ford i talked about. you can follow it from marshfield on the A420 (East of Bristol) right upto bridlip in glous.

i will look for it tonight when i get home. its on my external hard-drive.

you dont have to be extra-polite if confronted. tell them to check their OS maps to see your on a legal byway, show them your PDA/GPS then tell them to get their facts right or... **** off.

hahah. Righto Griff. Maybe we differ on approch to these types of people. But lets not get on to that one again!

Would be most greatful if you have got the Isle of Man maps. Also wouldnt mind your planned route for the fosse.

In exchange i have got a route around the west midlands which has all the local lanes to me and fords. I cant say i have checked the legality of all of them. But ive never had a problem. Let me know if your interested. Ill PM you my email address.

Thanks again!

Buried in my stash of old magazines (not THAT type before the comments start!!!:p) Autocar took a then new (E reg) Rangie along the complete route of the Fosse starting in Devon and working up to Lincoln, and it's something I've wanted to do ever since. As I've never done anything like that before (never had the right car!) now I'm in the position to do it, where's the best place to get the info from about what parts you can and can't use?
