Forced air induction via induction kit, any thoughts/advice?

Basically, as the title may suggest, I'm fitting, yes I'm not a chav, an induction kit to my late series 3 since the big jar of oil is a touch stifling as i see it. This would be the kit I'm fitting right myar (evilBay item No.) 160267362820.
What I'm thinking is fixing the nice happy filter to the steel curved pipe coming off the top of the carb, to the bit where the flexi pipe fits on (and I'll probably have to do something about the slightly flatter part at the end of the steel pipe.
As for the induction pipe, obviously just thinking of rigging it up with one end next to the grill and the other pointing towards the filter.

Anyone else done anything like this or have any advice?
Some feedback would be lovely on this.

if yer stick the induction kit filter on the end of the rubber flexi hose yer end up with an rather amusing dong........ well i thought it were amusing

i put one on me perkins diesel and it now runs alot cooler, just duck taped it to the metal angled pipe after beating the oval end into a more rounded shape....

Fair enough mate, reckon it'd work if i just hacksawed of the ovally bit down to the roundy bit? Also, did you do anything with a cold air hose leading to the filter?

I have one fitted to my 109 but mines the genuine article.. Mines a K&N for a 2.5 petrol/diesel engine.. It runs a bit better, but my 109 is an offroader effectivly, I bought it for my 2a but it sounded absolutle ****e!, So on went the old oil bath and I fitted the Induction kit to my 109. But I have just left the K&N filter in the space where the old oil bath was..

It seems to drink less too, But thats probably just a Phsychlogical feeling anyway..

on the perkins engine the air intake is on the drivers side, with the length of the metal pipe and filter on it gets right up behind the fan so there is plently cold air getting blown into it! like matt says there are k&n filters made to fit the carbs that just plug on top of them.

Yeah but the proper sized K&N for a engine like a 2.25 diesel/petrol is to big to fit straight on to either the inlet manifold or carb as the bonnet will not clear it, So You need to use the rubber hose from the Oil bath. And put a short length of guttering down pipe inside the rubber like a liner and clamp your Air filter over that to stop the pipe from Crushing and you want an air tight seal. Will get you a photo of my setup later when I actually feel like it. Staying up for 2 days straight really gets to you!

I do have another question though, the curvy steel pipe coming off the carb, if I were to slice off the flat ovally section, that'd mean loosing the bit that has has those vacuum type bits on it. What do those vacuum pipe type bits actually do anyway? Could i just do the normal thing here and stick a bolt in the end of the little rubber pipe or what?

No, just use your oil baths hose and connect it to that bend on top of the Carb, Those extra hoses could be for your brake servo

And the bonnet will not clear the air filter if you fit it on to that bend pipe. You have to use a rubber hose.

Its some kinda emissions control, just connect breather from crank case straight to carb, (i.e. remove T peice).

i had a k&n, and put it straight on filter. You can get a k&n with breather pipe inlet but havent found one yet. My k&n went off packing after i found an orgional parts snorkel filter box

Only difference is mine isnt forced, I'E on the other end of a air scoop.. Mines simply a K&N on the end of the standard pipe.

Fell off when I went to cut power to it. (My Ignition wire burnt out, you can see a gromit on one of those photos which is burnt, So I Have run a wire from the coil to the + of the battery, And when up plugging the little crimp, The Coil fell off in my hands

Got the induction kit today. Fitted the filter, may not need the cold air pipe, done a similar setup to doobie, may do something different, not sure yet, but atm Im too knackered to do anything else, also need to connect up the breather pipe again and extend it.

Just need to purchase some more fittings and sort out the breather pipes and see if I can find a use for the supplied cold air pipe.
And before anyone asks, due to lack of fittings (and a lathe

) I couldn't as planned fit the filter to the LR stock rubber hose or the new cold air pipe to the carb

. Oh well, we'll see what we can do.

I do however have another query, more of asking of opinion really, but anyway... A friend of mine who knows fook all about Landys, and has a limited knowledge of car workings really reckon conical air filters are only good on fuel injected cars and that sticking em on carbs fooks the air fuel mixture.
As most sane people would tell him, I too said "load of bollocks mate".
Just wondered on what level of bollocks this is or whether it's mildly based on facts?

Doesnt matter what you put it on it'll work but it will need to be adjusted to suit i.e. Re-jetting carb or Remapping ECU. BTW Cone filters sometimes make performance worse, because they draw hot engine in from inside the engine bay that the air box wouldn't. Cone filters Do work better in conjunction with a cold air feed and heat shielding,

Yeah, as i thought, I'm gonna make an alu heat shield or something to shield the filter from, well the heat obviously, so that should be nice and just need to rig up a bit of a cold air pipe leading to said filter, just awkward in a series engine bay.
