Here's what you do:
When you remove you old unit you will see a red plug with 2 wires in it which are for the rear doo sub. On your new stereo there will be 2 phono out sockets. If your stereo was like mine it will say 'audio out rear' for others it will say 'sub out'. You will need a phono lead but only use one side be it red or white its upto you. Right keep the end with the phono plug onit but cut off whatevers on the other end and trim the lead down to about 10cm. Next you will need to strip the end back about 2 cm leaving the outer windings and the sheaved inner wire. twist the outer wire together and strip the end of the inner. connect these to the 2 little wires of the sub, remember to insulate any bare wire left over and then connect the plug into the back of your stereo and presto it SHOULD work lol. It took me ages to work this out so doo feel free to ask if your stuck.:)

Red plug what red plug, perhaps you should start off by saying if your stereo was like mine as the plug type and layout depends on the spec level of the disco.

With a pre-amp output both channels should be used and combined when connecting to a mono sub amp.
The easy way is to make up a patch lead combining the both cores and both screens, which you have done...I think.

Looks good, I assume you butchered a blade fuse to connect to the line out fitting?

Dont butcher a blade fuse.
Its a fuse not a connector, spend the couple of pence and by some crimps.

what I meant by the red plug is that on my discovery when you take out the factory stereo there are 3 plugs 2 are the plugs for power and speakers and there is also a red plug vertically plugged in with 2 wires coming out of it. I did try your method but it didn't work and I noticed that when I accidentally disconnected on of them it worked fine. I would have taken pictures but I have no camera at the min. Nevertheless i posted hoping to shed some light on this problem. Hope I helped some folks

I didn't have a red plug, mines is black with the silver earth strip carring the audio but the two wires ars just the one mono channel + poss & - neg.
May be you are picking the + or - somewhere else but if it's functioning ok leave it uless u want to know why then you will have to check the wiring going to the sub amp.
