L322 Fooling the locks

Well just one lock, the rear tailgate.
We all know these beasties don't like doors left open. So is there a way to fool the tailgate into thinking it's locked?
I want to go up to the farm, sit in the back of the Golden Girl, with legs stretched out, (rather than cramped in the front) , dog beside me, flask of coffee, and just enjoy the view, out of the wind and rain.

I though the only issue was the interior lights being on, which you can turn off by pressing the button anyway?

That's what I thought, but there's always a but, I switched off interior lights and removed the fuse, when lock was broken. The drain still happened. So I'm wondering if there's something else. Some way to let her settle down.

Screw driver in top latch and flick it over just remember to press button to open it before you try to shut it, done it loads of times on door latches works just the same.

I'll be at the farm, loads of things to get a jump start from. Hence jump leads , not starter pack

Get a decent battery? Should stand a few hours with the boot open I would have thought.

Hmm it should drain the battery from simply leaving the tailgate open, I left my 4.4 on a lift for over 6hrs with the tailgate open, the battery wasn't really affected..

It stands to reason if it has been drained down flat often enough then maybe it is on borrowed time.

I’ve converted my boot and tailgate bulbs to LED to reduce drain and benefited from the light being much brighter than warm glow festoon bulbs. Was relieved to find no error message on the dash.

There are all sorts of stories of batteries drained from doors being left open whilst valeted, or the suggestion the other day of drain when brakes being done,etc,etc.
I'm not talking about flat, just stopping any drain. As most know I don't do a lot of miles, and these vehicles have issues with continual short hops.
Either that or everyone on here has been lying for years, and they don't drain easily and they are really happy with only doing short hops.
However, having had this vehicle through good and bad, and decades of driving experience I know, that vehicles, especially those with loads of electronics don't like being switched off almost as soon as they've started, then left to sit with doors open, so they don't go to sleep
So if I drive up to the farm, park up, sit with tailgate open for a couple of hours, I'd rather not have to go for a 30 mile drive to make sure all is ok. Hence , how to fool the locks.

That I understand however as said you can flip the catch with a screwdriver which should fool the car.

I’ll try and remember to have a go at this next time I’m venting the boot damp lol.

A few discreet drill holes in the floor ought to sort that out

I’ve removed the paint dip plugs before now but having tracked the water ingress it’s the random damp that still finds it’s way in.

Boot open, lock flicked across and enjoying the view of my front step. The Range is blissfully sleeping. I’m convinced this is a safe way to beat those battery drain fears. Top Tip - thanks kds.
