Foam filter on scuttle panel

Some advice please - just changed pollen filters and the foam filter was mostly in the pollen filter so needs changing / replacing - looking at RAVE it should be a simple task but I have had five min jobs turn into hours before so always expect the worst - is there a knack to getting the trim off without any damage - many thanks

Ask auto glass they will tell you the best way to remove the trim without damage I'm sure it's bonded

Changed mine a few weeks ago. I followed Rave system and it wasn't bad.
Abit long winded just to change a foam filter. But I did purchase new clips and screws just in case they were broken or rusty which turned out to be a good move.

Many thanks for advise - not 100% sure if it is only pushed on with plastic pegs which seem to be designed to go "ping" when you take them apart - you have also planted the mesh solution - some thin stainless steel mesh would look good if I find a bit kicking around will give it a go ! Again thank you for quick reply and will check for the water leak thread

Having checked the thread jamesblake suggested(many thanks for pointing in right direction) it seems not too hard but getting spare bits is good insurance - stainless must be correct way to go

I replaced mine with some pond filter I got from a garden shop and if i remember right the scuttle panel is held on by a dozen screws or so and also have to remove the wiper arms and the foam is held in place by a coupl.e of wire clips on the back of the scuttle

i knew i was reading about this the other night, take a look at this guys page. in depth and with photos!
Plenum foam and Pollen filters

I reused rusty clips & wire which wasn't rusty (Galvanised)
Worst bit is the lower window trim, screws rusty needed replaced, trim slides of in theory but i lifted mine thinking clips broke but they just bended and was reusable.
Plank of wood and crowbar to take off wipers, remember towel on bonnet as they do scratch when suddenly popping off.
The original filter i bought wasn't large enough to cover the whole area so used some other black filter i had, cant remember what it actually was for but works fine. Side bits got siliconed on as the wire arrangement didn't cover whole area? Strange design!
As mentioned by a wise man, pond filter will do fine.
Rave: Disconnect the negative lead - then front 1/3 of vehicle LR WTH do you put a filter in the middle of car building process:scratching_chin:

Good information sas1810 - I will have to do this - have some stainless steel mesh on order - will take pics and post when job done

I seem to recall that Irishrover did his a few months back and used some galvanised chicken wire to support the pond filter.

No need for "Stainless" mesh and all that cr*p. Just use galvanised Chicken mesh, avalable from most pet shops and Ironmongers. Easy to cut and bend, plus will not rust. It will not deform when driving at speeds in excess of 100 MPH-If you dare drive your P38 that fast !!
The filter and mesh support has been on my P38 getting on for two years now and is still looking good. It's lack of support that fecks them up.
