P38A Flooded, help needed Urgently Please

have P38. petrol got flooded 3 days ago, managed to dry it out and everything works well except when started car water came out from the exhaust, starts and runs well but if I am going up the hill car is struggling, air filter got damaged and removed it, not replaced it yet as not easy to get it in where I am, also I can hear some shooting sound from exhaust, on and of, I am thinking of removing the exhaust to see if there is any water in. any other suggestions? bear in mind that where I am there are very limited parts available. :(
 
If the car is running then things can't be too bad. It might be struggling for power because you removed the air filter so now the fuelling mixture is wrong. If there is any water in the exhaust, it will blow out or evaporate with the engine running. Get a new air filter as soon as possible. We can't bear in mind where you are because you haven't told us.

Was the engine running when it got flooded?
I’d take all intake pipe work off and let dry out to start with
 
If the engine was running and ingested water, it's possible one or more cylinders have been damaged, water does not compress leading to damage. Are there any strange rattling or knocking sounds?

thank you, I am in Trinidad and Tobago, that is how I feel, it starts without a problem, and idle is ok but if i take him to uphill very slow. I will try to get air filter and see.

it was running, I was turning back to come ot of flood and water run inside and wet brain box and everything shut down, I cleaned and dried everything inside and it is all fine now, now codes are coming up, when I started engine 1st lot of water came out from the exhaust, and now sometimes on and off i can hear shooting sound from the back

the engine was running but no ratling or knocking sounds, I will take a video and post it later
 
is it possible water may have gone inside the tunk? it feels like engine not getting good fuel or air when I check oil no sign of water which makes me believe that water did not go inside, also if it was an injectors problem will the car start at once? thank for everyone for the reply, much appreciated
 
If water did get into engine it would be sucked through the air intake, checking for water in the oil is no diagnosis of this.

If you are certain all electrical connections are dry then I'd do a cylinder compression check next.

Running without an air filter will not really affect the running.

thanks, electrical works well, was lucky in that respect, I was trying to upload the video but I dont think I can , I dont have the cylinder compression kit but I will see if I can get it or will any mechanic have it?, RR in this island is rear and parts and service also limited.

no I have not touched engine yet, just dried electric becm and inside the car and all is fine, just removed air filter as it was wet, if an engine has water in, if I take it down will it help? or is it gone for good?
 
Compression check first, not much work involved in that, just removing spark plugs and screwing in the compression gauge, you will very quickly test the health of the engine by doing this.

If you don't know how then have a garage do it.
 
I'd be checking earth straps on the engine first for good earths and also checking if the leads got wet.

I think after the air-filter on the petrol the ducting is shaped to catch any water that might get sucked up. Pretty sure the GEMS has. Worth checking in there? Mind you, you've been running it a while and guessing it is hot out there so may have evaporated by now.
 
thanks guys, here is a time difference too, therefore may not reply straight away but your help is much appreciated, I managed to get new air filter and also changing spark plugs, also managed to get compression kit so I am planning to do it tomorrow, 1st time doing it but it sounds easy to do it, I am planning to remove the spark plug and fuel fuse ( Fuse 28 - ign.coils, fuse 39 - fuel pump) and one by one check cylinders, am I missing something?

good morning, do I need to do the compression test on a cold or hot engine? and do I have to do both dry and wet test?
