Morning all, Not too sure about the battery in my 2002 TD5 Disco. It was off the road for a good 5 months, charged the battery for a good couple of days, popped it back in and all ok. When taking it for it's MOT the garage left the lights on for a few hours hence run down the battery again:mad:. A long drive on the motorway and hey presto ! warning light gone. Another 4 weeks go past without using the car (holiday ) and now when I'm acelerating/ driving no problem, but when the engine is idle the warning light comes back on, I've just driven it into London an later on back home again so I hope it'll clear up but if it doesn't what should I check first? The battery is only about 14 months old and the alternator charged up the battery fine earlier?

Cheers

First off just cos the parts are new it don't mean they aint broken.

During the 5 months that the vehicle wasn't used was the battery disconnected and kept out of the cold? If not then the cold weather and constant discharging won't have done it any favours. I would charge and load test the battery and then test the charge rate of the alternator. My guess is that on this occasion it will be knackered battery rather than alternator. Good thingg the battery's under warranty innit?;):D
