I have now fitted my new RF receiver (Rimmer bros £146.96 inc vat delivered). I have taken some pictures of the new and old ones and tryed to stick em on here for reference, but couldn't because the file size was too big. If anybodys interested they can contact me and I will try to e-mail them. I wish my PC skills were better:D

WOW, Thanks Sirus!
The Rf unit on the left is the old one. With the black box in the rear load area being the possition as fitted. The white blobs are the stickers. (the fact that you cant see the colours is the fault of me and my camera).

Just a thought, have a 99 P38 which is LHD, were the RF receivers fitted to cars for export market the same as for GB, or is it just that the frequencies used in Italy for wi-fi etc are different? I only ask as I've had no prblems with battery drain, but then I do live out in the sticks at the top of a hill

EVERY P38 was fitted with the defective RF receiver part number AFR1953. Land Rover only admitted there was a problem until 3 years ago in 2004. If you live in the sticks is the only reason why your RR hasn't been affected.

If they recognise this as thier problem then surely they should have been recalled and repaired f.o.c.

I totally agree and had a huge arguement with the manager at my local LR dealer. I also made a complaint to LR's head office as well.

Each time they wouldn't budge on it.

The only thing I got out of the arguement was them to fit the RF receiver for free and only pay for the part.

wow!!! thats good of them..i fitted mine in 2 minutes :)

Even better! Now you should see a huge boost in electrical reliability and performance....the way the P38 should have been spec'd in the first place.
i can already see a difference. just one thing, i now have the 'ABS FAULT and TRACTION FAILURE' warning messages coming up.could this be linked to my previous problem?

i will try that. the brakes work fine and it drives great so im hoping its nothing major.

It sometimes happens when you disconnect the security system, it probably is kicking up a fuss after the RF receiver replacement and your geting false phantom messages appearing. That's where taking it to an independent garage to do things like this come in handy as they can do a test book at the same time, check for any problems and clear and false messages.

Morning Folks

Well in my case the RF YWY500170 (looking at the inv from rimmers) finally arrived yesterday.

as adam hinted "change the thing with a full laden battery- to avoid errors starting to appear."

In my case to avoid this i changed the unit with the motor running and the real tailgate & rear side door open

took about 20mins in the dusk

kept the old unit for prosperity.

What i did do before installing i took the lable off the LR parts box and stuck (sticky-label) to the unit so that it could be identified for those who may find it in the future. Including any BS artists at RR dealerships.

In the light of the problems it seems to cause - it well worth mentioning it when /if you ever come to sell the vehicle.

Ironically enough, reading the parts box the part was "made in germany" but would have been about 35-40%more expensive sourcng it here

coals to newcastle....
