I have a 2005 facelift TD4 auto.

I left lights on overnight and completely flattened the battery. Not a peep from it, no remote, no lights on dashboard, totally flat.

OK, I found the switch that confirmed my mistake and turned it off, then connected the charger on and left it overnight. I had a fully charged battery the next day, it's a good 3 stage charger and everything worked fine. The doors opened, the engine started easily and I was able to drive out and have a fully charged battery since then. However, I have only half normal power from the engine, lots of black smoke when I open it up and the gear change is changing up early. Little kick down response and the manual selection is not available at all.

I take it I need to find a testbook or similar and have all reset and fault codes cancelled. Can anyone confirm that is all that is needed, or should I look for other issues ?

Having a flat battery shouldn't affect the engine at all. The adaptive control shouldn't make much difference, even if a flat battery could erase the adaptation, which it can't.
It's wise to see if any codes need to be erased and a standard OBD2 diagnostic tool can be used on an 05 TD4. ;)

It turned out to be a blown hose from the turbo to the inlet manifold. A quick trip to the local indie today, after the public holiday, produced a replacement section cut off a blown TDV6 inlet hose ! Silicone too.......and free !

As a bonus a free quick check on testbook then cleared all the multiple error codes from temp, boost, transmission etc., while I waited. Decent chaps there. They also diagnosed the gear selector absence as a faulty switch in the selector mechanism. We'll do that at the next service.

Just what I needed after a flat battery !
