But I know have a diffent problem and as money is tight can any one help.advise

Battery changed 11 months ago as thourght it was on its last legs
it is now doing the same thing keeps going flat

My son checked the alternater it is giving out 14v but the crancking charge is in the red when trying to start it

It could be the starter(although starts fine when jumped ) ,battery or earth problems has anyone any ideas for testing the se areas so I dont spend out on money I dont have too

Please dont say get rid of it !!

Is it reading only 14V when running as this is too low.....

I would expect 14.4 to 14.8V with engine running at 2000rpm to ensure a good charge....

Could be the battery dragging the Alternator Voltage too low or the Alternator isn't up to snuff.

If you have a friend or someone close by with the same, known good, battery - swap it over and then check the output again if you are still getting 14V at 2000rpm - suspect Alternator, if you are getting 14.4 to 14.8V - suspect battery.

What voltage are you getting with engine off - it should be between 12.4 to 12.8V or a little more if good...less than 12.3V, the battery is weak.

RF receiver is a common cause of battery drain, it keeps the BECM awake. Other causes are diode failure in the alternator, possible as your charge voltage is on the low side, or headlamp wipers not parking correctly or even the under bonnet fuse box. The only way is to measure the drain then unplug fuses to find the circuit causing the problem.

headlamp wipers not parking properley - can someone explain the cause and effect of this please? I noticed mine are a bit wonky....how does this lead to battery drain?

If the wiper arm has slipped on the drive spigot, then when the arm reaches the bottom of travel, but the motor hasn't, the motor will not be in the 'Park' position and keep drawing power....but it can't move the wiper arm as it has phsyically reached the furthest point of travel....leaving the motor sitting there waiting for the park signal....

(I think that is how i read it...Datatek will know - he mentioned it!!)

I have not looked into why, but there have been a couple of reports on this. My presumption is that for some reason the motor is still drawing current but not enough to operate.

I have had the same problem, mine was the rf box draining the battery every 2 days, I disconnected the ariel on the box and so far so good, just means you have to be next to the car to arm/dis-arm it.
