Flat battery...Can it just knock out everything so fast?

Today I replaced a fuse which had gone on my brake lights. The battery was a bit flat anyway but the nearside brake light worked but the offside did not. I took it apart and checked it. It seemed the person beforehand or maybe before him had bodged the wiring. There were wires here and there joined in weird places and I thought how that can possibly work. So I was turning the ignition on and off on many occasions trying to find out the problem. To cut a long story short it seemed that a wire had just come loose but it took a few hours. So I had not changed as I thought I am nervous about electrics anyway (see one of my threads) and if it isn’t broke no matter what the dodgy wiring is don’t fix it. Then it started to work so I thought job done!
Then putting the light back in I tried it again but back to square one only to find another had come loose (trust me it’s a right mess in there so the ignition was on and off all afternoon. I managed to fix it again I thought and then turning the ignition on again.........Nothing!
No lights at all. I tried to start and it just did not turn over at all?
I took the battery out and put it on charge. It had gone flat.
But my question is. Can a flat battery just knock everything out so quickly? No spluttering trying to start up and no lights at all. The wiring had been no different than when it worked.
It was like the Battery just completely gave up the ghost. All Fuses checked and where fine?

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh.........aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh...............uuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm

nope sorry I can't connect with yer phsychic link to work out what engine your landy has.

If your landy is diesel, everytime you turn your ignition on off and on you will power up the glow plugs.

In short. YES your battery will go flat if you keep using all the power up without replacing it.

Yes I have read your post.

So I was turning the ignition on and off on many occasions

As I have already said, If your landy is a diesel, everytime you turn your ignition on and off you will power up the glow plugs. Also, everytime you turn youre ignition on you will power up anything that is turned on in your vehicle. (blowers, heated screens, stereo etc etc). I take it you had a door on your landy open? That will mean that your interior lights are on.

YES I have read your post. NO you still haven't answered what engine your landy has. If your landy has a petrol engine and the blowers, heated screens, interior lights etc are all turned off, the answer will be different.

You are correct i did not mention Diesel or petrol but then i would know it would not be so quick with a petrol engine but found it surprising hence my question that even with a diesel it would shut everything down so quick.

I apologise for not making it clearer.

when trying to jump start a car the battery voltage will often drop from 12v to around 10.5 volts while the glow plugs are active.

If I remember right, the amp draw is about 30-40 amps. that equates to about 360-480 watts (roughly 7-9 headlight bulbs).
