Hi, I have the problem of no screen function and a flashing amber light. I’ve read previous threads regarding this matter and, have checked several options of what might be causing this. There is water ingress in the Nokia thingamebob. There is blueing in the terminals. Could this on it’s own be the problem?. What is this Nokia thing for?. I know it has a Bluetooth function but my car has no Bluetooth option. Do I need this part?. Will my problem be fixed if I replace it?. Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Andy

Year and model of car might help. Where is the water ingress. Water is often fatal to electrocis.
Blued terminals indicates poor connections and overheating.

Hi have you tried disconnecting the battery leave for a couple of minutes, does that make a difference. If not you have a struggle to find the problem , two major issues tend to be one of your units has completely died or you may have a bad connection, it's more likely to be one of the optical connections, had similar on mine and it was a combination of the Nokia unit was dead , bypassed that using an optical relay and then eventually found the fibre optic cable that went into the sat nav was loose repaired that and now works fine

Do not disconnect the battery until the red LED on the sat nav unit in the rear has gone out or you will knacker it.

Yes, the CD/DVD sat nav unit in the rear quarter. Bad design is the reason, if the unit is not allowed to go through it's shut down procedure, it scrambles the firmware. Plenty of stuff about it on LZ.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Is the Nokia part essential?. I don’t have a Bluetooth function in my car.there are no fibre optic cables going into it.

Ok not sure what you have fitted then . The Nokia that was fitted to that year was connected via normal wires and fibre optic, what may have happened is the Nokia unit died and some one has bye pasted the bluetooth unit this normally means just unplugging the fibre cables and fitting a relay or if they didn't have one available a pen body cut down and the two ends put in either end and taped up to stop them moving, if the fibre optic cable connection is broken this will cause the symptoms you described, I will try and take a few photos tomorrow to show you what to look for.

Has this happened since you disconnected the battery and is also in addition to your central locking issue?
Hi, unfortunately the screen malfunction leaving me with no stereo, sat nav, reversing camera, etc etc, all happened about 8 - 10 days ago. Nothing to do with the battery being disconnected. The central locking issue only started 3 or 4 days ago. The central locking became intermittently sluggish. I thought that it was probably just the key fob battery. I changed the battery and it seemed to help for a day or so. Now the central locking isn’t working at all. The key fob flashes but does nothing. When I use my key to open the door, it doesn’t trigger the central locking. The alarm sounds until the key is in the ignition.

Can I give you a little info regarding my td6. I purchased this vehicle about 3 years ago, it only came with one key. It wasn’t until a later date that I realised that the key didn’t fit either the glove box or the door lock. Thinking that this could obviously be a problem, I bought a door lock and key from a breakers so, I’d at least be able to access the door. Now, the single key that I was given with the car was pretty worn, so I decided to have a new one made with the internal bits from the original key. This is the key fob that I have now. I have another fact that may or may not be interesting. The key and lock from the breakers it what I’m using on my car. The alarm goes off when using this key. The original worn key with no innards still starts my car. Sound confusing?. So now, I’ve put out an alert on a breakers site for a set of replacement locks, keys, BCU. It would be nice to get it all back in one place, or key. I’m trying to stay cheerful. PLEASE HELP.

Your original key probable still has the chip in it thats why it will start the car,its a little black slug thing only 3 or 4 mm long by couple of mill square wedged into the case near the blade.

Aha, that would explain it. Cheers for the info.
