Flashing D on dashboard Help please

Hello all,
Tried searching for this but I can only see it where the flashing M&S are showing as well. (Which isn’t happening on mine).

On my 2004 TD5 Auto I noticed today that when reversing ( going up a slight incline at the time I don’t know if that’s relevant) and a couple of times just pulling away ,There was a complete flat spot for a good few seconds then it just roared into life.

Then later i noticed that when driving along and accelerating the D symbol on the odometer disappears and then comes back flashing and as I throttle of it comes back on solid. It seamed to be hold on to gears for too long a couple of times also.

I just had a look on YouTube and tried putting in in reverse with the front wipers on as someone on there suggested and the rear wiper came on automatically, I shall take out the ECU tomorrow to check for oil also.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated

Hesitation can be a bad MAF, or it could be xyz switch connection issue inside the unit.
Plug it in to h.eye or nanocom and check codes and MAF values when idling and flat out.

Something else i forgot to mention before and I don’t know if it is related is that the alarm goes off recently for no apparent ?

Just a quick update I case anyone has the same problem,


It got worse so I parked it up for a few weeks , the m and s lights weren’t on as I have read here happens when there’s an xyz fault but when accelerating the D would disappear on the odometer and it seemed to hold on to to which ever gear it was in for much longer and it didn’t feel right.

Anyway I had the xyz switch changed this week and all seems to be good now , the old switch was very slack where the shaft goes through and just kept moving compared to the new one which seems to sort of click into place as it turns to each gear position.

anyone have any thoughts if I should get the ac drain extended and if so any tips how to go about it?

The alarm problem turns out to be the interior sensors

I’ve been meaning to do this...
Remove the small rubber piece from the A/C drain that it is directly over the XYZ switch...


Then gently shove a smaller diameter length of hose into the drain spout and route it away from the XYZ switch.
