FL5 CDX6 Europe Radio/6xCD

Hi all,
This is my 1st thread so apologies if incorrect location/format/procedure........??
Have searched for Q&As for previous probs with this radio in my 2005 (55 plate) Freelander 1, facelifted, TD4 auto, but cannot find anything advising why radio backlight not coming on making display invisible at night. Is there a feature allowing backlight off or is radio head defective - the n/s/r door speaker is also silent - yes, i checked speaker's OK by swapping to o/s/r, so reckon wiring or radio defective on that channel too.
Any help would be appreciated
