FL2 - gear ratios and tyres

Hi All - just seeking some feedback about gear ratios and larger tyres.
Does anybody have hands-on experience with 245/75r17 or 265/70r17 (both approx. 31.6 inches) and how these sizes impact overall drivability on-road and off-road?
Is there a noticeable compromise from standard sizes?

I'd be cautious about going too large, especially if it's a manual, as the gear ratios are a bit too high for off road work on standard tyres.
