Just a quick note for anyone looking into starter solenoid problem.

Mine solenoid died. No clicks no nothing on key in. Knock it few times with a hammer and it will crank happly. Few starts OK and repeat beating to start. It became to frequent so I decided to fix it.
Removed the starter (it took some banging to release those bolts with 15mm hex head and 19mm nut from the back. It was a bit of a struggle to release solenoid from the starter afterwards. For testing applied 12V and the blody thing clicked in! OK, spray a lot of WD40, cleaned, reinstalled. It worked or 2 starts and again no click! Waste of time to fit everything back in...
So I removed just the solenoid from starter and start chasing replacement.
Starter is DENSO 228000-6122 / ROVER NAD101420. I found Repairkits UK selling one on eBay for 26GBP. Local HC Cargo distributor here on Malta suprised me with replacement 235320 Solenoid (Servicing: 128000-8690) for Ford (!) that fits perfectly. Available from stock for 20 Euros. Installed it back and it works like a charm.

Someone might find those part numbers usefull. If needed I can post some photos too...

Update after few days. Solenoid clicks in, now starter does not spin. Took it off, opened to find brushes worn out. Took it to local car electrician, he was replacing brushes and brush holder and greas all up for €30... now we're fine with that starter
