FL1 intermittent acceleration problem

BUT yes I do love her ( can't think why )
And will try my best to keep her on the road.
I don't want to use bad language on here but my crv was a far superior vehicle !

There's something wrong with it then. A well maintained Freelander is as good as any other car of comparable age and much better on fuel than most. It's definitely better than the CRV in every respect.

I was only teasing you guy's, I can't compare a nearly twenty old car which was designed as 4WD and is now 2.
I'm sure that upsets the handling.
We really love Phoebe and intend to keep her going as long as possible.
She's only done 154000k which is about 95 k in miles which is nothing.
For a British product I must say I'm amazed everything still works ! Even the aircon, electric back window etc.
I used to work for Rover so know the nonsense that went on, that's why their no longer around.
No offence intended, just my frustration that I can't find a decent garage ( yet )

Hi good to know that work's out about the same as mine in euro's, also are the larger 225 size ( can't remember rest lol )
Will find out thursday what wonderful Chinese, indian unheard of budgets I get.
That of course if they get wheels off.

Definitely check the wiring to your pump - some people fit an EVRY mod which frigs the pump into injecting more fuel than normal. Its basically a hack into the wiring and fitting of a resistor (or something) - could quite easily be a bodged job.

Hi, yes as said checked wiring to the best of my ability, no obvious signs of tampering. Usually hot n dry here so no damp issues, maybe the loom has become brittle with the dry/heat ?
Running missus to airport tomorrow then it's back for new tyres which will no doubt improve handling.
As said put fuel system cleaner in yesterday and went for a short drive, I kept revs below 3k and she ran ok.
Can get her up to a dizzy 100 kph on main road tomorrow, she shakes and rattles alarmingly over that but just realised thats only just over 60 mph !

Just completed a major search inside Phoebe and yes I found the key !
There don't appear to be any wires anywhere near the turbo ?
Just the air intake from the air filter and a braided pressure hose in the top.
Looks like a mechanical type diaphragm on the rear but no electrical contacts !
My tyre size is 225 x 70 x15 so not sure if 80 odd euro per tyre is a good deal.

215-65-16 on mine if it's any help.

No wires on the turbo. It's a mechanical device.
Asking if the tyres are a good deal, is a but like asking how long a piece of string is.

€80 is expensive for Chinese cheapy tyres, but cheap for Michelin or Pirelli tyres.

My L Series is probably at its best driving at about 100kmh - which is the maximum here. Its pulling 2,500 revs and sits there very happily without any sign of shaking. Mines done a few more Ks at 185k kms... and shall be adding another 1,500 this weekend

The standard tyre fitted to 15" rims are 195/80R15. I gave up on big name tyres when Goodyear stopped supplying the 195/80R15 Wrangler here... shortly after buying 2 new ones and needing 2 more! I'm running GT Radial Maxmilers now - they're great in most ways... wear, grip, noise... but they're Van tyres, so are pumped to 40psi and do give a very harsh ride. I'll be going back to car tyres when they do eventually wear out.

Aahh we could always do with an extra inch or so lol ! I can't remember now, I think 225 is the width, 70 is the height and 15 is the wheel size/width of wheel I think.
Got land Rover alloys so hope it's a normal size ?
Will find out manana what make and how much.

Thanks for rubbing my nose in it lol but on my phone it comes up as a Portuguese site ?
Most things here are cheap compared to uk but imported goods get slapped with 20% import duty !
My spanish isn't the best but I was asked for expensive named or cheap so I opted for cheap. They are special order so will have to wait n see.
Must be better than my current Kojaks !

Although a small island has mainly excellent roads which were built connecting the villages unlike uk. It's quite mountainous but one minute your stop start driving in town, then the next your doing 100 plus on motorway then the next your in second climbing a steep mountain so hard to judge mpg but if it was 30 I'd be lucky.
You know the age old argument of claimed/achieved mpg. I bet if I drained your tank and filled only with one uk gallon of fuel, and sent you out on a hilly stop start terrain, there's no chance in hell you'd get 40 uk miles to the gallon.
My friend said recently his 2 ltr capri ( remember them ? ) did thirty to a gallon.
We did the same test and from cold with some stop start and duel carriageway driving he a averaged just over 20 !
I of course don't know if you use uk or metric measurements but am imterested.

Oh forgot to mention was told got a dodgy engine mounting which accounts for the shaking but the engine noise is ridiculous compared with a modern diesel plus the lack of grunt !
I used to drive a 5 series BMW diesel and you couldn't hear the engine.
Twenty plus years of progress I guess !

Seriously @Stuart hall the best I've got is 43 mpg. If I do not get over 37 this weekend over 2 fill ups 1,000m alpine passes with 5 on board I'll be disappointed. Obviously around town or off the tarmac it will drop but I'd be disappointed if it got anywhere close to 30.

195/80/17 is the standard factory size tyres for the 15" wheels. 225/70/15 tyres are a few mm larger then the standard factory size.

Many thanks I appreciate your help but as said I gave my word I'd go back today as they had already ordered them.
I'm just back and paid 183 € for two tyres.
That included switching the fronts to the back and fitting new to the front. She's only FWD now so thought best to have new on the front.
Their Nankang make ! ! !
In £ s came to £169-69 for 225/70/R15
That was all in price inc tax and disposal etc hardly a bargain but at least I'm legal and safe now.
Only problem is on the last wheel they broke the key so now I can't get wheels off if I get a puncture !
Will have to now locate a new set of 5 new locking nuts.
They generously said they'd fit new ones FOC ! ! !
Could only happen to me lol.

Wow that's good mpg Gerald. To be honest I've never done a proper check on mine.
I just put 20€ in at a time which from just off the red fills me to the thickness of the needle over half full.

You can get replacement lock nut keys. The lock number is on the key.

Also any idea how many numbers/ letters I'm looking for as it's badly pitted.

Had to laugh rubber monkey was going to gun them all off saying I can fit new locks myself.
He thought it strange I didn't want to drive off with one nut missing from each
wheel !
