Hi adding a switch to my FL1 facelift that will control the 2 comfort lights and boot light.

Does anybody know what colour these are and the best place to intercept them (closer to the dash the better)?

Thanks folks!

The interior lights are fed from the central control unit module which takes inputs from door switches, ign switch etc.

If you want to override the lights then you will need to connect to the lamp itself which already have a switch to earth when you switch to ON manually. This would then remove the ccu control. If you only want to switch them off when they are on then that is easier, purple is 12v and purple white is earth. Break one of these lines and they will be off until you switch back on then they will be ccu controlled again.
Make sure whatever mod you do you don't put a feed on the ccu output otherwise you'll blow up the module.

Putple white is "earth" in inverted commas as is actually modulated by the CCU to create a variable voltage (potential difference) for the dimming effect. Have a look at this project thread I made earlier when upgrading my courtesy lights it explains the modulation thing:

If you are wanting a dash mounted switch to control the courtesy lights, I'm guess you want it to be On-Off-Auto? To do this safely you'll need to interupt the purple and white wire rather than the purple wire. These wires are easily accessible behind the drivers side A-Pillar trim. Use a dual pole switch (On-Off-On) and sire it so the common wire is the end of the purple white wire running to the courtesy lights, one of the poles is to earth and the other is to the other end of the purple white wire.

Courtesy light "earth" is connected to CCU which can modulate its voltage and do dimming working normally

The Courtesy light "Earth" is isolated from both CCU and ground, so light is forced Off.

Courtesy light "earth" is connected to ground, forcing the lights to be On.

This is the best way to put a dashboard switch on the courtesy lights without jeapordising the CCU.

Thanks guys, the switch is going in the centre console.

Does the purple white wire on the A-pillar "earth" the boot light as well or just the 2 passenger lights?

I don't know about the boot light, are they on a separate circuit or not, pop the boot light out and see what colour the wires are, if they are purple + purple & white they are 90% the same circuit. Also see if the wires are common to boot and roof lights by using a multimeter.

Looking at that (copy of a carling) switch you've bought, you are most likely to find its a simple on off switch, not the two pole / three position switch you're going to need to wire it up as per the diagram above. How do you want the switch to function? And very be specific, and I'll try and figure out how you'll need to wire it up.

If you want the switch to be a simple on off that inhibits the automatic function of the courtesy lights, and prevents the lights illuminating when switched on to the "on" position, splice your switch into the purple wire so the purple wire is switched on or off by this switch. As in cut the purple wire, solder on new tails to both ends and run those new wires to your switch. Your switch now interupts the 12v supply to the lights.

If you want to make it an additional switch that puts the courtesy lights on even when the doors are closed, wire the new switch in "tee'd off" the purple and white wire.

Thanks Jay, the switch wasn't compatible with the earth wire so used the purple wore and its pretty much a kill switch.

I'm a Security dog handler and having all the LED interior lights come on when I opened the door wasn't exactly stealthy lol.

In the future I'll probably rewire it so that it's only backlit when the headlights are on like all the other buttons.

Cool - Glad I've been helpful. I know what you mean about the all led interior lights, you probably seen what I've wired up in my hippo in the other thread I posted a link to. Is the boot light also killed by that switch? I noticed you had another switch for a light bar - would you mind posting some pics of your freelander?
