Ive had an idea! Has anyone ever tried to fit a BMW M3 lump into the TD4 hole on a FL1, straight forward FWD, is the M3 lump much bigger than the BMW diesel lump fitted as standard, fire away I've got thick skin.

Which M3 engine were you planning on using? The only engine that would fit between the inner wings would be the S14, for the E30 M3. All M3s were fitted with a straight 6, from the E36 onwards, which wouldn't fit in the engine bay, unless you planned on fitting it longitudinally?

If you want more power, then use the turbo K series or KV6 with some breathing mods, both of which will make more power than the ancient BMW S14 lump, unless you can find an EVO 2 or 3, but those are like hens teeth, and with a silly price tag.

The FL1 I have is excellent condition, but alas just about worthless, thought it might be interesting to do something very different.

I agree no chance the 6 cylinder will fit but it will fit in the back if he chopped out the floor & had a custom rear prop
mid engine rwd.
Evo engines are mental money mine was 6k to get built, he could squeeze a saab b204 of honda v tech
subframes are made for these to fit into minis with a bit of chopping & welding these could fit

Agree, think it's going to be a non starter, just fancied something to make it totally different.

Without major mods & a chunk of cash id look for something else to chop up ;)
Or buy a m3 I sold mine last year...…
