Hi all,
Well, me crunched up Disco is slowly gettin sorted bit by bit as and when I get time. I need to draw on the wisdom of the masses before fitting the winch and front bumper though. Is it a straight forward procedure fitting the winch / bumper / steering guard (all built to fit Disco' 2) or am I likely to have to start drilling the chassis etc? Am I better off buying and fitting a second battery to power the winch? If so, can anyone recommend which battery would be more suitable, ie; car battery or leisure battery.

Fanks for any elp!

it doesnt state the make of the winch, if its one of those 'unbranded' units i wouldnt bother and save up for a superwinch/goodwinch etc

there ya go, the manufacturer.....:D

fills ya with confidence don't it:rolleyes:

I just did the same, albeit for a Disco 1. I purchased the bumper and winch separately though, and also needed to buy the recovery swivel eyes and a couple of electrical connectors (the winch came with an isolation switch, but no means to connect it). With VAT and delivery all in, the prices were:

Bumper .......................... £175.08
Winch ............................ £199
Swivel eyes .................... £50.95
electrical connectors ........ £8.64

Also I imagine you'll need a tree strop, gloves, etc so I purchased a "winch accessory kit" which consists of a 2m tree strop, shackle, pulley, gloves and a bag to put it in. I also added a 4m strop since many trees are bigger than the 2m will go round! The kit + 4m strop was £54.64 all in.

So that gives you a bit of idea on the prices.

The winch was an eBay bargain. Winch solutions (the company your eBay ad is for) sell that winch for £245 free delivery, but did 5x auctions last Friday, I got mine for £185 + £14 del, some lucky bugger got one for £155+del!!! That winch looks exactly like the "extreme terrain" one in their bargain winches listing. I too was wary of a cheap winch but I googled it, this forum came up with 90boy's recommendation of it so was fairly happy with that stamp of approval. If you only occasionally use it, and say its on pay/play days (where if it does fail, there's always someone who can get you out of the muck) then it should be okay. If its for another use, or work reasons, and you can see yourself using it regularly and wearing it out, by all means put more money into it. I don't have money coming out of my ears, so had to go with the budget option.
