Evening all,

This might sound like a stupid idea but I'm thinking about fitting rear benches into my disco1. At the moment it's just in the form of a thought so I don't know if benches will fit, can they be mounted without too much difficulty etc etc.

Does anyone know if anyone has done this before and do you have any pics?

My intention would be to fit benches that fold up so that I can still through in loads of stuff if needed.

Thanks

The only bench seats Ive seen are the defender/series type which bolt down to the wheel arch and have brackets holding them to the sides of the tub. I cant think of any way of these fitting well in a disco as there arent any arches to attach them too really, as they need to be securely mounted still with the belts.
Unless you did a lot of welding to make the legs and supports to hold the seats and belts, and ensure everything is attached to the chassis too I dont think it'd work. Even when doing that Im not sure what they'd say on an MOT either. I reckon it could cause a lot of grief really.

There may be other types out there that might work but from the products Ive seen I dont think it'd work that well.

Thanks for the replies. To give you a bit more info, I've planned to rip out everything in the back including the rear seats and two fold up seats I have.

The reason for the benches is that I need more of a Defender layout. I have a lot of hiking gear that I need to transport and the current disco boot isn't deep enough but if I remove the rear seats it is. At the same time I'd like to have a fold down bench either side for when I'm not carrying kit.

My disco is solid mechanically so I don't really want to sell it and buy a Defender as I'd have to spend a lot more money.

My hope is that I can either fit or get someone to fit the fold up benches for me and I'll do the rest but I wanted to see if anyone else has done it and also how it impacts the MOT.

Thanks

Thanks for all the replies. I have stripped the back out today and it looks like it's possible. I can use the existing belt from the dickies for one end of the bench and just need to source another set of dickie belts for the other end of the bench. Apart from that I just need to see a fabricator to get the benches fitted for me.

I'll post how I get on (eventually).
