Fitting overdrive unit

i am going to fit an overdrive unit to my series 3 land rover in the next couple of days. i have been told that i need a special tool to remove the gear on the shaft. any ideas where i can get this tool as land rover cannot even locate one???

A hammer and a large flat screw driver is all you really need. The special tool that your talking about is no longer produced, at least thats what I've been told.

I installed a Fairy overdrive a few months back and I had no problem with the screw driver trick.

Quite often the hammer and large screwdriver "is" the special tool. I assume you have fitted overdrive by now and are enjoying the fuel savings/noise reduction.
