hi guys got hold of a new servo vacuum pump for 97 300tdi disco, as the old one ****ing oil ,just wondered if some one could talk me through the process of changing it : )
will be keeping the old to see if i can repair it with new seals and drilling out the rivets etc

i thought i had read some where about having to find top dead centre before hand? then priming it ?

No big deal, just unbolt the old pump from the block, (6 set screws, I think).

Clean off the old broken gasket from the block mount surface.

If you can manage it, turn the engine over by hand until the pump drive cam lobe is at the bottom of it's stroke, i.e. furthest point in from mount surface.
This makes it easier to fit the new pump to the block, minimises spring compression.

Fit new gasket/pump to block surface and bolt on the pump, tighten the set screws firm and even.

Reconnect hoses to pump, job done.

B.T.W. Usually the only thing you need to do to fix the old pump is remove the body rivets one at a time and replace them with M4 bolts and nyloc nuts, this tightens up the front plate to body joint that was leaking oil.
