Does the exhaust make much difference? I have fitted a stainless decat pipe to mine and i was thnking about a centre section replacement this summer.

tbh, the decat will do the better performance bit, but the straight through adds to it a bit, biggest difference i noticed was the engine note got seriously sexy ;) haha, love it, would never go back, partially because it ****ed me off so much putting it in haha :D

Yeah but they dont go as quick and have less torque and power than a TD5 - especially a tuned one like wot mine was/is once new engine in and running :):)

True. You could argue the toss for hours on end. All in all it comes down to what you're happy with and what you want. I've gone from a 2.5 N/A to a 200TDi and it feels like I've got a deltic to my disposal. It even goes just as well as the 1.6 MK2 Golf that I had for a little while. I like the 200 because it's a good simple, all mechanical engine that's as close to a reliable, nippy tractor engine that I'll be able to get in a 90. The TD5 is a far more "refined" engine with a lot more torque and a lot more power, which is no doubt a thrill :D but I don't like certain things about it. Put it this way. If LR had gone ahead and developed the conceptual TD6 (under BMW's ownership) without any electrickery, I'd have been green with envy! I just don't like electronics on engines :p

I know what you mean about 200ti been simple;), I'm still fancying fitting the BMW 2.5td engine as found in P38 Rangey's, Omega's and BMW's. Allthough not as simple as a 200tdi it's still not as complex as a TD5 and its 138bhp as std, the wife's P38 has fuel chip and one off straight through stainless exhaust and goes really well, it even sounds like a V8! I'm so impressed with the performance of it for a car weighing 2 1/2 tons that i'm going to get one in my landy when I've finished building the Kitcar:D.
