Hi all,

Let me start by saying that I have found this thread http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/electric-seats-58000.html

and I have tried my best to find info, but I still have a few questions...

I have bought some electric leather seats which include the switches and loom, I will be collecting them on Thursday and am helping the man in removing them from the donor car (which is a 98 ES Premium)

Mine is a 98 GS model with grey cloth seats. I have had a look and didn't see any wiring under the seats or behind the electric window switches (other than a 2 pin connector under the drivers seat).

What I would like to know is:

What does the loom comprise of (so I make sure I get it all) I have read that it goes under the passenger seat?)

When I fit them to mine, how will I power them - the switches and associated wiring is included so I assume I just need to power them. Where is the best place to take a feed from?

My centre console doesn't have cut outs for the electric seat controls so I assume I will need to cut an appropriate hole each side.

If anyone has any other advice for them, that would be much appreciated. I really just want to know what to expect before I turn up there to collect.

When you remove the loom- note where it plugs into the main loom. You may be lucky and have an empty plug socket on your existing to just plug into. Theres a LOT of relays under the pass seat- make sure you get thm all. Might be easier to take the centre console too if he don't want too much for it. If possible- test every seat function on the car before removal- will save a it of head scratching if something doesnt work when you fit them.

That's a good help, thanks.
I would take the centre console, however it's the beige colour (the seats I've bought are cream) whereas my interior is grey.

I'm hoping the cream seats will sit nicely inside my otherwise grey interior. I am getting the door cards with the seats so may change over the little leather inserts into my existing grey door cards.

This was one of my intentions when I got the car as I'm not keen on the beige dash etc in the discos (just personal preference) but like the cream seats. I appreciate this sounds a bit weird but it makes sense in my head :D

Anyone know where I should take power for the seats from if I can't plug into the main loom?

Thanks :)

There nothing in the Haynes manual electrical diagrams or relay list other than the heated pads pick up their supply from the ignition switched accessory relay, the relay has a 60amp supply according to the manual so you may be able to tap into that and install an addition ignition switched relay along side to supply what u need at the seat relays.

I don't see why u won't find an existing plug or two for the seats under your carpet or centre console as there's not much difference in the ES, which has electric seats, and the GS to warrant LR fitting a different wiring loom.

The first thing is to fit the seats and the local electrical bits, switches relays etc. in the correct position and then decide where the power supply comes from, if u don't find an existing one, which could be from either the dash fuse board or a new fused supply direct from the battery.... which is very easy to do.

They're in!

I wired them direct to the battery, to get them in a sensible position. I need to sort them permanently. I'm not decided on where to take power from.

I'd happily tap into the cigarette lighter feed but I assume the seats probably take more power than that can supply?

The supply for the heater elements comes from the 20amp fuse 6 which is the one for the cigar lighter.

Thanks again for your help!

For powering the actual motors, I see someone on here had hooked them up to the power supply for the rear electric windows - is that something I could do? It would be very easy if that is ok?

Alternatively I found somewhere someone was wiring them to pin 87 of the accessory relay. This would be a bit more of a faff but still ok if it works?

I think I will need to attach one of the other wires to the drivers door switch and the other to the cigar lighter (to power the heated pads).

Your thoughts please!

Right, they're working!!!

I buckled and called up my Landy man. I went up there this evening and he has wired the main power wire into the accessory relay, so the power is only on when the key is turned.

Both seats now work in all directions :D

I also cleaned them up - bought a product called liquid soap flakes. It's safe for use on leather and has done an amazing job without damaging the surface of the leather. I perhaps wouldn't use it on a regular basis, but as a one-off clean it's amazing. My Autoglym leather cleaner wouldn't really touch it.

Really chuffed. Just got to mount the controls in the centre console now. Since I've cleaned them, the leather smell is lovely :D
