 Any1 got any how 2's on fittiing a V8 there seems to be nothing online or in the forum about it other than a couple of b4 and after pics.

My issue is with the engine mounts for mounting the engine to the chassie

Any info would be great guys n gals....:)

Some good info there but doesnt really go into any detail regarding the engine mounts.....engine ordered so gonna have 2 come up with something!!!!

My III came with the V8 fitted. There seems to be two ways of doing it. Fabricating new mounts & welding them to the chassis or adapter plates. Mine's got the plates.

They're (from memory) sort of L shaped, bolt to the original engine mounts then run along the bottom edges of the engine and bolt on in two or three places.

This site seems quite useful for some guidance: Converting a Land Rover 109 to a V8

Most fitting kits should come with the engine mounts. Which are you using?

Also, are you using the original 4 speed box? If so, I'd recommend changing the diff ratios. Mine's running 3.54:1 & behaves pretty well in traffic & off road. It pulls well from a standstill without screaming, tops out at a genuine 90 & cruises happily at 70. I'll fit an overdrive at some point, but just to try & squeeze a little more than 16mpg out of it!

Your brakes are the other area of consideration. 11" servo assissted drums, well set up seem to do a more than adequate job.

Cheers Marcus, some good info there. Just got engine and it has the adaptor plate to go onto the series box but no brackets. Spoke with Andrew Kiff from here and hes sent me some very usefull Pics of the said brackets you refer to. Will upload them onto here l8r. Not sure if anyone else had tried to search for info but theres not much out there for fitting a V8 into a 88.

Was looking as some rr diffs, already have o/d fitted. BRAKES!!!!!!!!! a deffo...gonna have to upgrade em, It'll have the stopping distance of an oil liner otherwise. Was looking at getting a 109 setup with servo etc.

Any info on this upgrade would be great aswell fokes.

Cheers Gav

Duz that mean it's already been mated to a Series box then? If not, I think the output shaft needs a bit shaving off the end to allow it fit the gearbox.

If you need any pics of things you're not sure of let me know.

Pics would be great.... [email protected]

No not been mated to series box gonna use my orig, engine has adaptor plate and fly wheel fitted. How much do I need to shave off the output shaft???
Cheers Gav

Well it was fitted this weekend.............god how heavy are those 2 n 1/4 engines..........V8 weighed half its weight. Will Be faster just on the fact ive swaped engine for lighter 1....heheheheh

Still havin some teathin problems, think its missin on 1 cyl. Dodgy lead I think. Heavens opened on sunday so ended up with useless blue plastic sheet up!!!!

Got it tikkin over sounds good......had to source a new accelerator pedal and lead from scrap yard just got to finish a couple of things off and should be good for maiden journey........I'll get some pics posted this week.

Hi do you have any pictures of the engine mounts, As I have a mate who is fitting a V8 into a 2a and we can find no info on the engine mounts. Did you use adaptor mount (ie no welding?). All help greatfull

Ian

Hi Ian will see if ive got some if not ill take some this weekend. The mounts I have came with the engine, they had been made up buy some1 so they went straight onto the original 2a engine mounts.

Tell your mate its alot of hastle but well worth it in the end. Major grin factor!(when he fits his v8 carry a spare rotar arm!!!!!)

Thanks Gavin that would be great, he has a doner vechile for the engine etc, so most of the work is straight swap but the engine mount that are on the engine are a complete bodge so he is after pictures, info on some good ones. I will mention the rotor arm to him, I guess yours has let you down.

Ian
