Spliting the engine from the gearbox is the hard bit, otherwise it doesn't look too bad. I'll be ripping the motor out of my spares dog soon now complete with the auto box as it's easier than just taking the box out, I do have an excavator to use as a crane though.

was offered a 2001 DSE with a snapped timing chain tan leather interior 130K auto blue for €1000. i have a 1997 2.5 DSE with a big gouge out of the rear quarter panel i was going to turn in to an off roader but might steal the engine out of that or get an engine from the breakers? i have an old sump and a FIP knockin round! what you think?

A 2001 DSE with a working engine has got to be worth at least £2.5K if it's in good nick. Are you sure the timing chain has snapped? Is it the cam chain or the FIP chain? What damage has it done? Might just need a head swap:D Easier than swapping the engine.

2001 here working is prob worth between 3-4k

waiting to hear back more from the owner. its a couple hundred miles away so trying to get as much info as possible before i make a decision.

if its only the head how hard is that to change?

should be a piece of cake to do,it took me 2 days to swap a v8 the only help i had was my brother drove the fork lift when lifting the engine in and out, shame your so far away or i would give you a hand to swap them over
