Just to pass on a modification i made to my defender. I run a 1992 defender 200tdi with 230,000 miles on the clock and was getting a lot of slap from the transfer box input shaft. I run a shellfish farm and travel a lot to the west of Ireland, to fellow producers, normally on county roads but many times on beaches and across shallows to pick up shellfish. For the long distance travel on roads my defender was quite noisy and i came across an article on the discovery 1going into a defender. So I acquired and fitted a discovery 1 transfer box, but first replaced the input shaft, supplied by turner engineering, not a difficult task. This makes a big difference in cruising speed and reduces the noise levels. I run my defender of Bio Diesel so am slightly down on power, can't put a figure on it. However the higher ration in the discovery transfer box does not seem to be a problem and much more comfortable to travel. very easy to fit as it slots right in. same mountings and drive shaft is exactly the same.
